President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sent the name of Abbas Shareef, Legal Secretary at the President's Office, to Parliament for appointment as Prosecutor General.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sent the name of Abbas Shareef, Legal Secretary at the President's Office, to Parliament for appointment as Prosecutor General.
While six persons reportedly applied for the position, the President nominated only the former High Court Judge for the post.
An extraordinary sitting of the Parliament will be held tonight to deliberate on the appointment of a Prosecutor General.
Abbas is a lawyer with extensive experience in the field, and had studied in the legal field at the University of Tasmania. He has served as legal representation for former Presidents Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Abdulla Yameen.
Abbas also served as a High Court Judge from 2011 to 2015.
