MVR 1.5 million allocated for Addu City's mosque repairs

Minister Shaheem said that this is the first time that a government has spent such a huge amount at once for the renovation of mosques in Addu City.

The government has granted MVR 1.5 million to Addu City Council for the renovation of mosques in Addu City.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, accompanied by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, visited Addu City today and met with members of Addu City Council this afternoon.

After the meeting, Minister Shaheem said that MVR 1.5 million will be allocated through the Mosque Fund and disbursed by the Council for the renovation of 68 mosques in Addu City.

The Minister said that this is the first time that a government has spent such a huge amount at once for the renovation of mosques in Addu City.

A senior government official who attended the meeting between President Muizzu and the Addu City Council said that Addu Mayor Ali Nizar told the President that the money had been received in the council's bank account.

Minister Shaheem said that efforts are underway to expedite the construction of the Islamic Center in Addu City Hithadhoo and complete it by May 2025.

After his visit to Addu City, President Muizzu will continue his tour to Fuvahmulah City, Gaafu Alifu atoll, and Gaafu Dhaalu atoll. He will be accompanied by senior government officials during his tour, which will end on Thursday.
