City Council members and close associates of President Elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Adam Rameez and Abdulla Naseer (Harrins Ahlho) have resigned from their positions on Thursday.
It has been learned that both Rameez and Naseer are to be appointed as Ministers at the President's Office in the incoming administration. They were among the key persons who worked alongside Muizzu in September's presidential election.
Rameez has previously left the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) due to a difference in opinions.
With their resignation, the Council seats of Maafannu South and Henveiru Central constituencies are now vacant. With Muizzu taking oath of office for Presidency, the Mayoral seat will also be vacant.
Muizzu's Cabinet constitutes of 22 Ministers. This includes parliamentarians as well, which will in turn make parliamentary seats for those constituencies vacant.
Vice President Elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef's Faresmaathodaa constituency parliament seat will also be vacant after today's inauguration.
