President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih returned to Maldives on Monday morning after the conclusion of his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
President Solih visited Abu Dhabi with Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed at the invitation of Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During the visit, President Solih and Nasheed met with Mohammed Bin Zayed and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed Bin Salman.
Moreover, President Solih and Nasheed were also scheduled to hold a meeting with UAE's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to discuss ways to improve the bilateral relations between the two countries.
However, the President's Office has yet to reveal further details about any of these meetings.
In former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's administration, the government received harsh criticism for maintaining close ties with Saudi Arabia. The public accused Yameen's government of planning to sell a Maldivian island to the kingdom.
