Government of China has offered 200 fully funded Masters level scholarships for foreign students to study in China, for which Maldivians are also eligible.

The courses are scheduled to commence in September this year.

All the costs of these scholarships are covered by the Youth of Excellence Scheme of China of the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Ministry of Higher Education announced these scholarships on Thursday, inviting interested individuals to submit their applications before April 15.

Applications can be submitted online, and more information can be found on the ministry's website, www.mohe.gov.mv.

The Ministry said that opportunities are there to undertake 78 different courses in China. They appealed to applicants to ensure the courses and universities they opt for are accepted by the Maldivian Qualification Board before confirming their travels.

In the case of professional or licensing areas, the Ministry advises applicants to approach relevant institutions and ensure the courses are accepted at those places before confirming studies. To further clarify the kind of institutions they refer to, the Ministry named the Maldives Nursing and Midwifery Council, Maldives Allied Health Council and the Civil Aviation Authority as examples of specialized institutions students may need to consult before confirming a particular course.

Applicants must be under 45 years of age, in good health both physically and mentally, possess a bachelor's degree or higher and have at least three years' work experience.

A few from the vast list of the courses offered are:

1. Master's Program in International Relations at Peking University

2. Master's Program of Mechanical Engineering at Beijing Institute of Technology

3. Master of Digital Public Governance for Developing Countries Program at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China

4. Master Program of Global Public Policy at Fudan University

5. Master Program of Agricultural Ecology at Lanzhou University

6. Master Program in Energy and Power Engineering at Zhejiang University

After President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's first official state visit to China in January, he offered details of the multiple areas in which China will be cooperating and providing aid to the Maldives.

This included 1000 fully funded scholarships to civil service staff under a human resource development initiative.
