Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International, recognized local trading giant SIMDI Group's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Maryam Shakeela in its listing of 'Influential Leaders' for the year 2020.
She was shortlisted for the award based on her impact within the field of 'Consumer Goods and Services'.
Graduating in 2009 with a Doctorate of Philosophy in Management from Curtin University, Dr Shakeela has established herself as a prominent advocate within the field of human rights, health and the environment.
She is also the Honorary Consul to Belgium and has represented Maldives numerous times on the international fora.
“Dr Shakeela has worked tirelessly to empower women and young people through roles such as Chairperson of the Executive Board of the World Health Organisation, Vice-Chair for the Regional Committee of the Asia Pacific International Scouts and Guides Fellowship, Member for United Nations Women in New Delhi, and President of the Addu Women’s Association", noted Curtin University Faculty of Business and Law's Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nigel de Bussy.
"It is incredibly satisfying to see our alumni making such a positive difference on an international scale", added the Professor.
According to Dr Shakeela, she was always driven by a passion to improve the lives of women and young people, adding that her experience at the university paved the way for her to gain the "knowledge and expertise to pursue this passion in a productive and meaningful way".
“It is very rewarding that both my studies and professional life have been recognised internationally by AACSB".
She is accompanied by 24 other influential leaders selected that were selected by the AACSB for 2020.
