Minister of Higher Education, Dr Ibrahim Hassan, on Monday, met with senior members of Institute of Chartered Accountants including its President Hassan Ziyath.
The main discussion of the meeting revolved around collaborating with Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) to expedite the process of validating accounting qualifications, and determining the number of individuals that need to be trained in the field, as per the information gathered through the institute’s operations.
According to the minister, these numbers will be taken into account, and priority will be given to students pursuing higher education in the field, when accepting applications for loan scheme options.
Noting that the field of accounting is already on the National Skill Shortage list, the minister noted that the information provided by the institute will be useful in finalising the first-degree policies.
“Establishing a professional body in the accounting field, backed by the law, is an important step in building professionals in the field and cementing the standard of higher education”, Minister Ibrahim Hassan said.
During the meeting, the participants also noted the need to regulate the accounting and auditing fields and discussed ideas on tackling the issue.
