Imran maintains Adhaalath Party presidency against Ahmed Zahir

Incumbent Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla, on Saturday, was re-elected as the President of the ruling coalition's Adhaalath Party for the second time in a row.

According to the results of the online poll held to elect the party's leaders, the minister maintained his position in the party with 921 votes, against the current Minister of Islamic Affairs Ahmed Zahir, who secured 167 votes.

Imran's running mate Ahmed Shareef was elected as the Vice President by default.

The party revealed that 1,088 party members, out of the 4,556 who registered for the elections, took part in the voting.

Adhaalath Party further noted that the permanent result of the election will be announced within five days, after investigating the nine complaints lodged regarding the voting process.
