Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, on Tuesday, stated that construction of King Salman Mosque will be completed by July 31.

After a brief setback due to the delay in settling the payment of the project contractor, the Saudi-funded mosque is to be finished within the next month. Construction was put on hold twice before.

After construction recommenced following the first halt, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Zahid had stated last April that the Turkish construction company tasked with the project, had guaranteed that the mosque would be open in July. However, the minister also mentioned that if there were more delays in receiving the funds, construction would be halted.

The second interruption in development confirmed the mosque would not be opened in July.

However, Director General of the Planning Ministry, Fathimath Shana Farooq, on Monday asserted that the issue regarding payment was solved and construction has resumed.

“The deadline is now July 31, the mosque will be finished by then”, she said.

Development of the six-storey mosque, which amounts to USD 24 million (MVR 370 million), began three years ago.
