Former Commissioner of Police (CP) Abdulla Riyaz on Tuesday, disclosed "all information" he received to the Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances regarding the murder of Dr Afrasheem Ali, religious scholar and former MP.

Afrasheem was discovered stabbed to death in the stairwell of his home in the early hours of October 1, 2012, while Riyaz was the then-CP. Riyaz was previously met with staunch criticism over delays in revealing the information.

Police have maintained that the crime was premeditated and politically motivated. Hussain Humam Ahmed was found guilty of carrying out the murder.

Speaking to Mihaaru, Afrasheem’s brother Abdul Nasir declared that the investigation does not end with Hussain Humam.

“We want to find the person who funded the murder; that’s the end of the investigation. We don’t believe that this ends with Humam. The person who paid MVR 4 million [to kill Afrasheem] must also be found,” said Abdul Nasir, who is the president of Ungoofaaru Island Council.

Earlier in October, the commission claimed that perpetrators behind the brutal murder were discovered, stating that information regarding the murder would be revealed soon.

The Commission's chief Husnu al-Suood declared that there were patterns and similarities between the high-profile murders of Dr Afrasheem, prominent blogger Yameen Rasheed and the kidnapping of journalist Ahmed Rilwan, leading the commission to believe they were linked.
