In a post on social media X yesterday, Muththalib said that the government does not have any plans to discontinue any projects that have been commenced by MTCC. However, the government intends to hold off on beginning new projects that have been signed but not commenced so far, and instead focus on completing the ongoing projects.
The Minister said that the government had come to this decision as this year's budget does not have enough funds allocated to proceed with all the planned projects.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has also previously expressed concerns about this matter. He said that when this year's budget was compiled, despite having sought the opinion of the incumbent government, the previous government had not included the necessary fund allocations to complete the projects. Hence, he said that there are challenges in proceeding with some of the projects.
