Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has said that sewerage systems in various islands which were contracted to Fenaka Corporation had been halted even when this administration had assumed office.
In parliament today, members questioned the Minister about halted water and sewerage system projects in a number of islands. He responded that the halted projects are those contracted to Fenaka.
Muththalib said that Fenaka had at no time undertaken contracts for building water and sewerage systems. Despite this, the previous government had contracted the corporation in 2020 to build water and sewerage systems in 19 islands, he revealed.
He noted that these projects had then been subcontracted by Fenaka. However, no work on any of these projects have been conducted to date.
"The work contracted to Fenaka has come to a complete halt," the Minister said.
He stated that the incumbent government had now cancelled all these contracts.
They have since conducted surveys through Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and have requested tender proposals for the work to be contracted to them, the Minister said.
