"There will no be room for corruption, regardless of who it may be," President Muizzu asserted.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he did not receive the letter that former Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Chairman Ahmed Zuhoor is said to have sent, highlighting issues within the corporation.
Speaking to the press outside the President's Office today, President Muizzu said that had he received such a letter, he would have certainly taken action against these issues right then.
He asserted that he would never hesitate to take measures to stop any acts of corruption, or any other actions against the laws and regulation. He said that he has even previously in his administration taken similar steps when made aware of such issues.
"It is not true that I received a letter and failed to act upon it. I did not receive a letter," he said.
"Once I am made aware, I have taken action in all issues. Even with what is happening now, as soon as I became aware of it, Police has been notified, who will fulfil their legal obligations."
President Muizzu assured that he remains committed to ensuring this administration is free of corruption as per his pledge.
"I do not want anything against the law to take place at any government institutions. I do not appoint people to positions so they can commit theft, or corruption, or acts against the law. Instead, [I appoint them] to be honest, and to serve the public with integrity," he said.
"There will no be room for corruption, regardless of who it may be."
Zuhoor raised concerns regarding corruption within HDC and made serious allegations against then HDC MD Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed in a seven page letter addressed to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, which he sent in July. In the letter, he spoke of many instances of corruption within the corporation. Zuhoor alleged that things are only done within HDC for people who are willing to pay bribes.
