President's powerful message: Life is precious, drive safely!

In response to recent tragic accidents in the country, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sent a heartfelt and significant message to the public through social media.

"Life is Precious, Drive Safely!" he wrote.

This message was accompanied by a short animated film depicting the tragic outcome of a roadside accident where a father sets out from his home on a motorcycle, with a gift for his son. Just as the father drives through the four-way intersection, a car slams into his motorcycle, severely injuring the father, leaving him unconscious. The driver gets out of his vehicle to check on the motorist, only to realise that it was his father. The video cuts off with the son crying over his father, and the watch that was meant to be gifted fallen on the ground.

Along with the video, President Muizzu also wrote, "let us all put a concerted effort to make our roads safe for us! We may not get a second chance to make right what we do wrong with our own hands!"

The animated clip was created by Yamin Rasheed, the creator behind locally popular Maakana Show, who also received the national award for encouragement in the field of visual arts in 2015.

The president's message comes at a time when road accidents have become a frequent occurrence in the country, with two fatalities reported earlier this month and several others severely injured in other accidents.

The government has also taken several measures in light of this with police patrolling the streets round the clock in the Malé area to prevent traffic violations.
