Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Saturday announced the 93rd and 94th COVID-19 related death in Maldives.
HPA said, at 0139hrs on Saturday, an 87-year-old Maldivian man admitted at Hulhumale' Medical facility passed away. This was the 93rd COVID death so far.
The 94th COVID death was an 83-year-old Maldivian woman brought to Haa Alif Dhidhoo Atoll Hospital. She was declared dead at 0845hrs on Saturday.
An elderly lady had also passed away late Friday night, at 2352hrs. That was the fifth COVID death of Friday. HPA had said the 92nd COVID death was a 63 year old elderly woman admitted in Dharumavantha Hospital.
With these developments, the number of COVID fatalities in May has reached 21. The most deaths in a singular month had been February of this year previously, at 10 deaths in total.
The surge of COVID-19 positives within the country has vastly increased the death rate from the disease. At the current pace, over 1,000 people test positive to COVID daily, with one in every five samples giving a COVID positive result.
The total number of confirmed COVID cases has reached 42,775. There are over 15,003 active cases at the moment.
