Bank of Maldives (BML), on Wednesday, donated MVR 50,000 to local NGO Family Legal Clinic (FLC) in commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The contributions were handed over to FLC's Chairperson Shafeea Riza, during a special ceremony held at BML's Head Office, by CEO and Managing Director Tim Sawyer.

The donation will be utilized by the clinic to provide free legal services to women, men, and children facing family and domestic violence related issues across the Maldives, as per the Family Act and Domestic Violence Prevention Act.

Sawyer thanked FLC for its continuous contributions over the past six years to eliminate violence against women.

Family Legal Clinic was founded in 2014 in collaboration with Hope for Women. It was registered as an independent NGO in 2017.

FLC previously noted that most Maldivians, especially women, low-income workers, disabled persons and the elderly, cannot afford legal representatives, and appealed everyone to contribute to support the NGO’s cause to provide “legal support that should always be a ‘right’ and not simply a ‘privilege'".
