Maldives President inaugurated new domestic airport on Friday

The newest addition to the Maldives domestic airport chain, Madivaru Airport, was opened on Friday, 18th February by Maldives President Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The opening ceremony was attended by Maldives head of the state as well the front-man of Kuredhdhoo Holdings - the airport developer - Mr. Mohamed "Uchchu" Moosa along with other senior members of the company and senior officials of both Island Aviation and MMPRC.

Reports claims that the domestic airport was developed at a total value of USD11 million.

Meanwhile, management of Madivaru Airport has been assigned to Island Aviation.

While the initial trips are set to commence on Sunday, 20th February 2022, the fare prices between Male' and Madivaru for a one-way ticket is currently MVR1,029.

The opening of Madivaru Airport marks the very first domestic airport opening in the entire Lhaviyani atoll.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony, the Maldives President had voiced the airport developer's wishes on transforming the domestic air gateway into an international airport.

President Solih has affirmed that discussions with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) were currently underway for the purpose.

Moreover, President Solih has highlighted on the benefits the atoll will observe with the addition of an airport venue stating that Madivaru Airport will provide logistical benefits for the public as well as improve local tourism sectors.

The Maldives head of state had thanked Kuredhdhoo Holdings for the development of the airport.
