Official reserves spike to USD 788.8 million

The official state reserves increased to USD 788.8 million by the end of April, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) revealed on Thursday.

According to the central bank's official statistics, this record was a monthly increase of 59 percent, and an annual increase of nine percent.

MMA had previously released statistics in February, which showed that the official reserves were at USD 625.9 million percent by the end of January. The amount was a 31 percent spike from the previous month, and a seven percent increase from the same period in 2017.

The statistics also revealed that usable reserves in January were at USD 205.6 million, which was annual increase of two percent.

However, the central bank did not release information on usable reserves in the report for April.
