The Zakat fund plans to send USD 100,000 as aid to the people of Gaza.
This marks the first time that the Zakat fund in the country is extending help to foreigners.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed stated that the Zakat Fund would provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza's people through Qatar's Red Crescent. He noted that in the past, national-level assistance had been sent twice through Qatar's Red Crescent.
"The Zakat Fund plans to send USD 100,000 in the first phase. The money will be sent in two payments. This money is being sent to support the food needs of the people of Gaza," Dr. Shaheem said.
The Minister emphasized that this initiative was undertaken under the guidance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Last week, the government announced its decision to provide zakat-funded food to people affected by Gaza.
Israel's attacks on Gaza since October have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians and the displacement of dozens of others.
