Tourist arrivals from China to the Maldives have reached 200,000 this year, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism.

A total of 202,000 Chinese tourists have visited the Maldives so far, accounting for 15 percent of all arrivals.

A total of 1.3 million tourists have visited the Maldives this year, with the government aiming to attract two million by the end of 2024. An additional 700,000 tourists are needed in the next four months to meet this target.

Following China, the countries with the highest number of tourist arrivals are:

- 150,000 from Russia

- 120,000 from the UK

- 102,000 from Italy

- 97,000 from Germany

Tourist arrivals increased by 14 percent in August compared to last year. However, the first week of September saw a 3 percent decline compared to the same period in 2023, with an average of 3,900 daily arrivals this month.

The government is also conducting special campaigns to boost the number of visitors from India, which had the highest tourist count last year. So far, 83,000 tourists have arrived from India, with efforts underway to move India into third place by the end of the year.
