CEO of National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) Heena Waleed has been appointed as the Chief Spokesperson of the President’s Office, making her the first woman to occupy the role in the country to date.

Heena, who previously served as a presenter at Television Maldives (TVM) and a long-term veteran in the country’s media scene, will still remain as CEO of NSPA despite her new appointment, according to the President’s Office. However, she will not be provided a salary for her role as Spokesperson.

Heena had previously served as the Political Director of the Foreign Ministry and also worked as the Head of News at Public Service Media (PSM) for some time.

Her higher education is in the field of Mass Communication, Journalism, and Advertising.

Heena, who currently serves as the Spokesperson of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) coalition, maintains a close relationship with the local press.
