Last year sees 2425 Marriages and 1281 divorces in Male'

Last year, central Male’ saw the marriages of 2425 couples, while 1281 divorces were recorded.

The statistics provided by the family court reports that the month with the highest marriage numbers was December, with a count of 306 marriages. The statistics also displayed that the largest number of divorces were seen in October with 139 divorces recorded.

163 marriages were initiated outside the country while 167 orders were given on domestic violence prevention and children’s rights as revealed by these statistics.

As proclaimed by the court, 270 cases of family problems were submitted with 107 of these cases being peacefully resolved.

Moreover, the court states that Iddah (a period of generally 3 months that must be observed by a widow or divorced woman before she can remarry) expenses along with alimony and child support expenses within proven cases amount to a sum total of MVR 95.5 million. As such, the court had intermediated in the issuance of over MVR 47 million to various individuals under court rulings.

While 2312 cases were submitted to the court, the court had closed 2236 cases last year.
