State Minister at Ministry of Tourism Mohamed Nihad has been suspended following remarks made at last night's ruling party People's National Congress rally.
Nihad, also a former MP for Feydhoo constituency, alleged in his speech last night that opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is planning a terrorist attack while Maldives is gearing to reach 2 million tourist arrivals.
A senior government official said that Nihad has been suspended for making such comments while serving in a senior government post.
MDP also released a statement today voicing concern over Nihad's allegations. MDP called on authorities to ensure the safety and protection of all tourism service providers in relation to Nihad's remarks.
Nihad was earlier a member of MDP before he joined PNC in December last year. He was appointed as a State Minister in July.
