Japan PM's special envoy to attend Solih's inauguration

Japan announced that a special envoy of Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, will attend the presidential inauguration of President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

In a press release on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan declared that Wataru Takeshita, a member of the House of Representatives and president of the Japan-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship League, will attend Solih's oath-taking ceremony on behalf of Abe.

Extending congratulations to the president-elect, the Japanese government highlighted the importance of its bilateral relations with Maldives, and expressed wishes to further promote the cooperative relationship between the two nations.

Several top diplomats from Maldives' allies are expected to attend Solih's inauguration, including India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and a special representative of China's President Xi Jinping.

Solih's oath-taking ceremony is slated for November 17, at the National Stadium in capital Male'.
