Foreign Ministry has stated that Maldivians will still receive the on-arrival 30 day visa from Sri Lanka. Travelers who wish to extend their stay must apply for a 6 month visa, which comes with an administrative fee.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated last night that Maldivians will be able to obtain the Sri Lankan visa according to the existing agreement between the two countries.
Previously, all visitors get a 30 day visa on arrival at the charge of USD 50. However, the country now issues a 6 month visa instead of a 30-day visa for all visitors which incurs an expense of about USD 101 following the introduction of a new e-visa system in Sri Lanka.
This change, however does not currently affect Maldivians, the Foreign Ministry said, adding that they are in deliberations with Sri Lankan counterparts to ensure a smooth transition.
Maldivians will still be issued a free 30-day tourist visa upon arrival in Sri Lanka.
They added that Maldivians can apply for a 6-month visa extension through the official portal with an additional administrative fee under the revised agreement for visits that require a longer stay in the country.
The Foreign Ministry aims to address any remaining concerns in their discussions with the Sri Lankan government, they said in a statement released last night.
The Ministry further advised Maldivians currently in Sri Lanka to contact the Maldives High Commission in Colombo to arrange visa extensions.
Maldivians planning to travel to Sri Lanka can also contact the Foreign Ministry for further clarifications, they said.
