National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed Sunday that 95 percent of registered individuals from Friday's fatal fire incident in capital city Male', were placed under temporary housing through guesthouses.

Over 400 persons were displaced and needed assistance following the major fire incident that broke out. NDMA expects the figure to rise as more registered nearing 48 hours since the fire.

The state has decided to arrange financial assistance after assessments are made on the damages suffered by the victims.

The unprecedented blaze quickly spread from the epicentre in the narrow 'Abadhahfehi Magu', in the Henveiru Ward. Seven houses and four chemical storage facilities caught ablaze. One of the flame-engulfed buildings collapsed as the fire weakened its structure.
