Foreign Minister pays courtesy call on Moroccan PM

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Friday, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Morocco Dr Saad Eddine El-Othmani.

During the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Rabat, the foreign minister conveyed greetings from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to the PM and the Moroccan citizens.

Minister Shahid and Prime Minister El-Othmani discussed several issues of mutual interest, including the importance of people-to-people contact between the two countries and cooperation in the areas of trade, economy, culture and heritage, education and climate change as well as counter-terrorism and radicalization.

Furthermore, Minister Shahid expressed confidence that his official visit to Morocco would further enhance the existing bilateral ties between both countries.

Over the course of the official visit, Minister Shahid also conducted a meeting with his Morrocan counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita. The meeting resulted in the signing of a visa waiver agreement which will be implemented starting from February 2020. The minister signed an additional three agreements during the meeting.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of Maldives to UAE Dr Hussain Niyaaz, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Shiaan and Assistant Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Moomina Ibrahim.
