Funds raised through the telethon will be audited: Zeena

Zeena said that the funds raised through the telethon which commenced at 08:00 hrs today will be audited to ensure that they reach the intended beneficiaries.

PSM Managing Director Zeena Zahir said today that the funds raised in today's telethon, "Palestine aa eku Dhivehin" ("Maldivians in Support of Palestine"), will be audited to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries.

Speaking at the launch of the telethon, organized by Public Service Media (PSM), Zeena said that Crowe Maldives LLP has been appointed as an independent auditor to monitor that all the funds received in the telethon are duly handed over to Palestine.

"I appreciate the assistance provided by Crowe Maldives. The donation will be delivered to Palestine through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). We will first hand over the funds to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will then hand over the funds to UNRWA," Zeena added.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer announced that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided to increase the donation from Maldives to the UN Fund for Palestine to USD 50,000.

Zameer said that the funds raised through this telethon would be handed over to the UNRWA via the Foreign Ministry and the Maldives Monetary Authority under the supervision of the ministry.

"Crowe Maldives LLP has taken responsibility for this work. Once they complete the audit, we will hand it over to the UNRWA under our supervision through the Ministry, and once they have received it, we will notify the public."

A total of 13 donation boxes have been placed in the Male' region to collect funds for Palestine. These boxes are located in the Hiyaa Tower area of Hulhumale' Phase 2, Hulhumale' Hospital, Velana building area, State Trading Organization (STO) building area, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), ferry terminals, and STO supermarket area. A donation box has also been placed inside the Television Maldives (TVM) premises.

The telethon commenced at 08:00 hrs this morning and will proceed until midnight.

The government has stepped up its efforts for the Palestinian people and has begun the practical work of amending the law to ban Israeli passports in Maldives.
