FAM's Central League kicks off

The Central League, which is a qualifier for the 2023/2024 Dhivehi Premier League kicks off.

The league's first game under second division on Sunday evening, September 18, went to Guraidhoo Sports Recreation Club.

Central League kicked off with Group B matches. The group consists of residential islands of Kaafu atoll excluding Greater Male' Region (Male', Hulhumale' and Vilimale'). The matches will be played at the National Football Stadium in Male' City.

Guraidhoo took the win in Sunday's match against Gulhi Football Club with a 3-1 score. Guraidhoo's goals were scored by the team's Aalim Abdul Gayoom, granting him a hat-trick at Sunday's game.

Gulhi Football Club's only goal was secured during the extra time. The goal was scored by substitute player Mohamed Faishan Faisal.

Initially Group B consisted of four teams, however, with Kaafu atoll Himmafushi deciding on forfeiting, the group now consists of three teams. Apart from Guraidhoo and Gulhi, the group consists Maafushi New Star Sports Club.

The second match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20. Sunday's winning Guraidhoo will go against Maafushi New Star.

Group B matches are slated until September 28, while Group A games will commence on October 3 until 13 at Baa atoll Eydhafushi.

Central League pits a total of five groups. The eventual winner through the group qualifying stage will advance to the league's first division. Runner-ups from each group will receive the chance to advance into first division depending on their final points.
