Police has begun investigating allegations of threats made against a police officer and his family.
An allegation that a gang has been engaging in acts of threatening and intimidation of a police officer based in Hulhumale' with his wife experiencing physically harassment was made on social media yesterday. The claim elaborated that these acts were incited by a dug case filed at court.
Spokesperson and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Shifan said that police have now begun investigations into these allegations. However, no evidence that a gang is connected to these claims have been found thus far, said Shifan.
"We haven't yet identified that a group or network is connected to this crime," said Shifan.
Acts of violence, threats and intimidation against police officers have been made several times over large drug cases in the past as well. Three officers working at the Police Drug Enforcement Department (DED) were also attacked on the street last year.
Two people were arrested and detained in connection to the case at the time.
