Dhiraagu Road Race, the country's premier annual running event, celebrated a successful conclusion this year, marked by a significant achievement—raising more than MVR 600,000 in donations for various child rights organizations.
The race, focused on themes benefiting children's welfare, facilitated the fundraising efforts of several organizations aligned with its cause. The total donation of MVR 635,000 included contributions from registration kits, the sale of bib numbers, and Dhiraagu's MVR 200,000 donation to the top five organizations most nominated by runners.
The top five organizations, receiving MVR 76,250 each, are:
- Cancer Society
- Arc – Advocating the Rights of Children
- Autism Association
- Tiny Hearts
- Thalassemia Society
These funds are intended to support and encourage the organizations in expanding their initiatives for the well-being of children across the country. Other endorsed organizations in this year's Dhiraagu Road Race include the Child Abuse Prevention Society, Diabetic Society of Maldives, Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives, Care Society, MOMS AID, Society for Health Education, and Maldives Association of Persons with Disabilities.
Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race stands as the first and only international race in the Maldives, listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar, featuring a World Athletics Certified Race Route. The next race is scheduled for October 25, 2025.
