Telecommunications giant Dhiraagu introduced a broadband service on Sunday, that offers up to Gigabit per second download speeds to Maldives.

The Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamal inaugurated the service at a ceremony held at Dhiraagu Head Office.

The company will also provide routers with the newly introduced service.

Noting that the public needed this service, Minister Maleeh assured that the government will fully support the efforts of state-run companies and private companies attempting to provide similar services to the public.

"I believe that the speeds launched by Dhiraagu today is an important service for schools, hospitals and offices", Minister Maleeh said.

CEO and Managing Director of Dhiraagu Ismail Rasheed stated that the company prioritizes providing fast internet speeds at the same price all over the archipelago.

He added that the internet speed would not decrease even if many users are connected to the same network via Wi-Fi.
