Maldives Immigration has deported four foreigners who were discovered to have been involved in a large scale prostitution ring.

The authority said they were arrested during an inspection carried out on the August 11, in collaboration with Maldives Police Service.

They also detailed that those arrested included three women of foreign nationality as well as a foreign male who acted as their agent.

All four were deported within this week and last week, with the agent being the last to be deported this past Sunday, according to Immigration.

Since the current administration took office, the government has launched a special operation to address the issue of undocumented expatriates and those violating immigration laws. These includes raids in which many individuals have been taken into custody, including those operating illegal businesses and preparing food in unhygienic conditions.

According to Immigration, over 2,000 expatriates have been deported within the past eight months. The authority said these raid operations will not stop until the issue is brought under control.
