Maldives telecommunication provider Dhiraagu, has signed an agreement to link the country's cable network to the "Sea-Me-We 6" submarine cable system.

The submarine cable system is an initiative organized by thirteen of the top-most international communications and technology conglomerates.

Under the initiative, submarine cables will be installed from South Korea leading through India and reaching the Middle East and Europe.

The Maldives is included among a total of eleven countries that will become part of this international submarine cable system.

Meanwhile, the final phase of the system is expected to conclude sometime during 2025, while the cable network is estimated to cover 19,200 kilometers in length.

The cables used for the initiative are state-of-the-art units holding the potential to provide speeds up to 100 Tbps.

Speaking about the decision of Dhiraagu to participate in the initiative, the company's CEO and Managing Director Mr. Ismail Rasheed said that their decision falls in line with the company's policies on providing faster connectivity to the customer base.

Dhiraagu expects faster, reliable, and robust connectivity without any network hindrances or glitches once the telecommunication provider links with other international counterparts.
