President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the Drug Detoxification and Community Rehabilitation Centre in Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, on Sunday.
Following the inauguration, President Solih took a tour of the Centre and enquired into the services provided at the facility.
The centres are licensed by and operated in accordance with the National Drug Agency (NDA).
According to NDA's mission statement, the purpose of the agency is "to provide effective and efficient drug prevention, treatment and rehabilitation for the drug users and effectively re-integrate them back to the society, hence achieving a well-informed drug-free community".
The NDA was first established under the Drug Act passed by the Parliament in 2011, during former President Mohamed Nasheed's tenure.
