Feeali, Faafu Atoll declares Dengue epidemic

The island health centre, on Monday, stated that the recent dengue outbreak in Feeali, Faafu Atoll is spreading rapidly and control measures are yet to be implemented.

Over the last four days, 12 of the 14 children that tested positive for dengue were taken to the capital city of Male’ for further treatment.

In an update, an official from the Feeali Health Centre stated that an additional two children had been tested positive for dengue, leaving a total of five children afflicted with the fever still on the island.

“There are some stable cases, but there is no guarantee that the fever will be controlled,” said the official.

In an attempt to reduce the spreading of the virus, the island school has been closed for the week.

The regional hospital in Niladhoo, Faafu Atoll has sent an additional doctor and nurse to Feeali Health Center to help improve the standard of services.
