A local youth undergoing treatement for dengue fever at Raa atoll Ungoofaaru, has passed away.
Ungoofaaru Council president Abdulla Rasheed corroborates the incident.
Local reports identify the deceased as Athoof Ahmed, a 21 year old from Dhuvaafaru of the same atoll. A friend writing about the departed on Facebook, confirms he is survived by a two month old child and a wife.
The acquaintance confirms Ahmed had been a room-mate and a long time friend.
Athoof had been taken to Ungoofaaru Regional hospital on Monday night for treatment.
This adds to the list of deaths over dengue in the Maldives in 2022. Last week, authorities reported the demise of a local 19 year old youth, who had also suffered from dengue, while a minor passed away due to the fever, a day before this incident.
