Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi, on Saturday, met with the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, at the sidelines of the 4th National Security Adviser Level Trilateral Meeting on Maritime Security Cooperation.

According to government reports, the two parties explored ways to further deepen the longstanding bilateral partnership between the countries.

Minister Mariya also met with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval the same day.

The 4th National Security Adviser Level Trilateral Meeting, which was held between Maldives' close allies India and Sri Lanka, revolved around strengthening cooperation with regards to the maritime security across the Indian Ocean.

The last iteration of the NSA trilateral meeting was held in 2014. However, the discussions were later shelved following a growing disconnect between Maldives and India during the tenure of former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
