Maldives and India have signed two agreements last night.
One of the two agreements signed between the Government of India and the Government of Maldives are an agreement between the Higher Education Network of Maldives and the National Knowledge Network of India.
The second agreement signed is concerning making arrangements for the use of vaccination certificates between the two countries.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and the Health and Family Welfare of India regarding the vaccine certificate will make it easier for Maldivians to travel to India.
The first covid-19 vaccines in the Maldives was administered with vaccines supplied by Indian assistance.
During the ceremony held in Addu, Health Minister Ahmed Naseem signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldives while Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Munu Mahawar signed the agreement on behalf of India.
Under the agreement, digital vaccine certificates issued through the COVID-19 safe website of the Maldives and certificates issued through India's Covin platform will be accepted between the two countries, said the Ministry.
In addition, a peering agreement was signed between the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) of Maldives and the National Informatics Centre of India (NCIC). According to the Ministry, the agreement was signed between the two institutions to strengthen cooperation in the field of information communication technology.
After signing the agreement, the foreign ministers of the two countries formally established relations between the Higher Education Network of Maldives and the National Knowledge Network of India.
In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the areas of Human Resource Development was also signed between Maldives Police Service and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy of India.
Minister of External Affairs of India, Dr. Jaishankar is on a two-day official visit to the Maldives on the invitation of Foreign Minister Shahid. The Police Academy established in Addu city with Indian assistance is scheduled to be inaugurated on this trip.
