The South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) held its first Club Championship trophy, which was won by Tamil Nadu, India.
The tournament, which ran from April 2 of this month until this past Monday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, India, saw Tamil Nadu claim the championship by winning all four of their matches.
With this championship, Tamil Nadu has qualified for the FIBA West Asia Super League Final 8 to be held next month. Tamil Nadu also represented South Asia in last year's West Asia Super League Final 8.
In the Club Championship, which featured five teams including Maldives champions T-Rex BC, Tamil Nadu won their first match against Bhutan's club Thimphu Magics 107-41. They defeated Sri Lanka's Colombo BC 110-54 in their second match. Subsequently, they beat Nepal's Times BC 118-44, and on Monday night, they defeated T-Rex 106-49.
T-Rex finished fourth in the tournament. T-Rex had made a good start by winning their first match 71-47 against Thimphu.
However, T-Rex couldn't secure any additional victories. They lost to Colombo BC 74-79 last Thursday, and on Friday, they were defeated by Times BC 67-59.
Colombo won the silver medal in the tournament. They defeated Times BC 71-66 and beat Thimphu 98-51. Times BC, which won the bronze medal, defeated last-place Thimphu 87-59.
