Malé City Council member Nahula Ali, who represents Vilimalé, has expressed concern over certain actions taken by the council.

In a statement released on Friday evening, Nahula said that she was not allowed to answer questions from the public regarding her constituency during the council's public meeting held on Thursday night.

She noted that the microphone was cut when certain questions were asked by the public and alleged that false answers were provided to those questions as well. Nahula also said that some decisions were being made by the council without bringing them to the council meetings.

According to the statement, even though Malé Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu recently said that he had entered into an agreement to give a plot of land from Villimalé to Redwave, she was not involved in the decision. Nahula said the council had not yet discussed the issue.

"If there is such an agreement, I should know it as a councillor of the constituency," she said.

Nahula said that after she was removed from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), she was removed from the post of chairman of the Villimalé Committee of the City Council in violation of its rules. She claimed that major decisions were being made without informing her, going through the bidding process, or making the required announcements.

Nahula was expelled from the party last year for allegedly defaming its leadership and campaigning against its candidates. She was suspended from party activities prior to being expelled.
