Maldives Immigration has implemented measures to expedite passport availability in Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi, Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Thinadhoo, Fuvahmulah, and Addu Cities.
In a statement, the agency announced that, under the directive of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the new Controller General of Immigration, Mohamed Sham'aan Waheed, has made arrangements for the swift availability of passports in four atolls housing regional immigration offices. This move aligns with President Muizzu's vision of providing easily accessible services promptly.
The statement further said that Kulhudhuffushi, Thinadhoo, Fuvahmulah, and Addu, which host regional immigration offices, have doubled the frequency of passport issuances. Addu City, which previously issued passports twice a week, will now offer the service four days a week. Kulhudhuffushi, Thinadhoo, and Fuvahmulah will issue passports twice a week, compared to the previous once-a-week schedule.
This initiative follows the recent mandate, implemented on November 20th, requiring Maldivians traveling abroad to no longer fill out the 'Travel Declaration' or Imuga form. Additionally, the restoration of e-gate services at Velana International Airport was also announced last week.
