A complaint has been filed with Maldives Police Service after Adaalath Party’s member and religious scholar Dr Mohamed Iyaz received a death threat.
Adhaalath Party spokesperson and the Minister of State of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ali Nazir, on Tuesday tweeted saying that the incident had been reported to police, urging them to treat it as a serious case.
Iyaz, who is also the Vice President of the party's scholars council, received the threat via Facebook. The Facebook user shared an online news article related to Dr Iyaz on their timeline with a caption saying the scholar should be hanged.
The scholar often attracts strong criticism from the public over his political views.
