A man was arrested Saturday, for allegedly issuing death threats to the High Court (HC) Chief Judge Shujau Usman on Friday.
According to Maldives Police Service, a 50-year old man attempted to assault the judge and threatened to end his life. Judge Shujau was accompanied by another individual at the time.
Maldives Judges Association condemned the crime and urged authorities to ensure the protection of the Judge.
In early November, perpetrators vandalized Criminal Court Judge Ali Rasheed's apartment. The suspects left the axe used to deface his front door at the scene.
Police are investigating both matters.
Judge Rasheed is tasked with temporarily running the Court following the suspension of the Criminal Court Chief Judge Ahmed Hailam. Hailam has since resigned.
