President ensures use of research on national development in policymaking

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today said that prosperity and advancements can only be achieved through well-researched studies and ensured use of a diverse range of research linked to national development in policymaking.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said today that prosperity and advancements can only be achieved through well-researched studies and ensured use of a diverse range of research linked to national development in policymaking.

Speaking at the inauguration of "Theveli International Conference 2024," which involves deliberations on scholarly findings, President Muizzu stated that research-driven approaches represent the next phase of human progress. He emphasized that research is crucial for successful decision-making and achieving developmental objectives.

President Muizzu expressed the government's commitment to nurturing a research-oriented community that values evidence and knowledge as cornerstones of development. He assured that every decision made by the State will be based on professional solutions and evidence-based approaches.

He also highlighted the importance of embracing research-based solutions in policy and decision making to ensure financial and economical advancements for the nation.

The government will prioritize scholarly findings to address the country's economic crises and change the trajectory of its future, he further assured.

He added that enhancing research systems and ensuring that developmental models align with the community's visions for the future is critical for advancing individual research efforts.

Efforts are also underway to establish a national research council, the President said, noting that the council will investigate themes related to economic, social, and environmental progress. He elaborated that its purpose is to foster a future community grounded in a research-oriented approach.

Moreover, a substantial priority will also be given to enforcing guidelines that facilitate coordination between scholars and decision-makers in the process, the President added.

He also assured that investments provided by the State for researches and studies will also increase.

In his closing remarks, President Muizzu urged everyone to support and advance national research, ask questions, seek knowledge, and actively participate in the nation's development.

He expressed that, together, the country can achieve growth, innovation, and prosperity in this ever-changing world.

The conference commenced today marks the seventh edition of the Theveli International Conference organized by Maldivian National University (MNU). With the theme, 'Bridging Boundaries: Exploring Synergies Across Research Discipline', the conference this year is set to run until Tuesday.
