"Mamen" Interschool Cycling Championship on September 17; Registrations open

Dhiraagu in partnership with Bike Maldives has announced that "Mamen" Interschool Cycling Championship 2022, will be held on September 17.

The competition is aimed at students of all schools registered with the Ministry of Education. The competition was officially launched at a press conference held at the Dhiraagu head office on September 1.

The one-day touranament is the third such event organized by Dhiraagu and Bike Maldives.

Students can register for the competition before September 8, Thursday.

At the press conference, Bike Maldives Chairman Zulaikha Hassan Didi said the aim of the competition is to increase the childrern's interest in cycling and to train them for international cycling competitions.

"We are now a member of UCI (Union Cycling International). We are frequently invited to participate in international cycling competitions. However, we have not been able to train the right students to participate in such competitions," Zulaikha said.

The tournament will be divided into five age groups; Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19.

A special "Fun Ride" is organized for children under the age of 11, in which tricycles can be used.

Ten events will take place during the competition;

- Under 11: 1K Fun Ride.

- Under 13: 200m Sprint.

- Under 13: 1K Ride.

- Under 15: 200m Sprint.

- Under 15: 1K Ride.

- Under 17: 200m Sprint.

- Under 17: 3K Ride.

- Under 19: 200m Sprint.

- Under 19: 3K Ride.

- 3K Team Pursuit.

The winners of competitive categories (all except "Fun Ride") will be awarded certificates and plaques.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Bike Maldives as a development partner for this event,” said Naiya Shareef, Brand Assistant Manager of Dhiraagu.

She hopes to get the youth interested in cycling while promoting the importance of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle at a young age.

The third edition of the "Mamen Interschool Cycling Championship" was scheduled to be held in 2020. However, the tournament was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Students can register for this year's competition via Google Forms. The form will be provided by the student's school and will also be available on Dhiraagu and Bike Maldives' social media.
