Maldives Immigration has said that there are scam calls being made via Whatsapp in their name, targeting to capture people's Face IDs.
Immigration said today that an international number is making video calls via Whatsapp, claiming to be from Maldives Immigration. The calls are made by people dressed in what appears to be similar to Immigration uniforms, and wearing face masks, they said.
The callers also have an Immigration backdrop behind the counter where they are appear during the calls, Immigration said.
"We assure you that this is not being done by Immigration officers. We appeal to all to be aware of such scam calls," Immigration said in a post on X.
They said that the calls are being made from a phone number from Pakistan, +92348107783. In the calls, the scammers ask for Identity card details and Bank of Maldives card details.
Immigration said that the scammers are aiming to capture Face IDs through the video calls.
