Ru'ya has broken her own 100 meter sprint record with an outstanding time, making her one of the most accomplished athletes this year. She recorded a time less than 12 seconds in the JAAA All Comers meet yesterday, becoming the first female to do so.
Maryam Ru'ya Ali has renewed the 100 meter record with an outstanding time, making it difficult for others to catch up with her.
With the record made during the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) All Comers meet held yesterday, Ru'ya has become the first female runner to finish a race in less than 12 seconds. She finished the sprint with a time of 11.87 seconds.
A sports expert, reviewing the current sprint talents in the Maldives, said that Ru'ya's time is exceptionally fast.
"This time should be significantly highlighted as well. I don't think there is another athlete that can break this outstanding time made by Ru'ya right now. I am saying this based on the country's current sprint talents," said the expert.
Moreover, in light of Ru'ya's time for finishing this record breaking race, former number one runner and athletics coach, Naseer Ismail had said that this marks the biggest accomplishment achieved by a female Maldivian athlete this year.
Ru'ya's former coach, Dr Hussain Haleem who had also led the first Olympics team of Maldives as an athlete said that based on the time Ru'ya made yesterday, she now has the talent to achieve a gold medal at the Indian Island Ocean Games. He added that Ru'ya will be able to contend competently in the South Asian Games as well.
The 100meter sprint record that remained unbeaten for two years was broken by Ru'ya in a previous race. She came close to breaking the 12-second record during the race she competed in earlier at the Jamaican Comers meet held on May 4th, recording a time of 12.02 seconds.
This record was previously held by Aishath Himna Hassan. After 21 years, Himna broke the record set by long-distance runner Shamha Ahmed at the World Championships held in Edmonton, Canada, in 2001.
Himna had broken this record after finishing a race in the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England in 2022 with a time of 12.7 seconds.
With the Maldives Women's Junior 100 meter record, Ru'ya currently holds two records from two categories of the 100 meter events.
