A six-foot crocodile was found near Haa Alifu atoll Hoarafushi today.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said that the crocodile was found within the Hoarafushi lagoon, between Ungulu Finolhu (a sandbank) and Huvahandhoo island.
Just last week, on January 13, a 14-foot crocodile was found in Kaafu atoll Bolidhuffaru lagoon. It was captured and released into the ocean some 24 nautical miles away from the island.
Crocodiles are not native to the islands; however, there are occasional sightings in Maldives waters. There has been no record of anyone being attacked by a crocodile so far.
