Maldives Police Service, on Saturday, announced that three men, from the suspects arrested during a major drug operation in Addu Atoll, were remanded until the end of their trials.
The remand orders for Hussain Simah, Hoodh Latheef and Hassan Amir were issued by the Hithadhoo Magistrate Court.
In total, 16 individuals were arrested along with the seizure of 98.6 kilograms of drugs, including MDMA, amphetamines and heroin, in the operation which commenced on October 1.
Although two suspects from the initial arrests, Abdulla Ibrahim and Mohamed Yameen Naseer, were previously remanded until the end of their trial, eight others in custody were released following investigations.
Abdulla Ibrahim, suspected of masterminding the smuggling, has a criminal record of smuggling drugs in addition to other previous convictions.
Police are conducting the collaborative effort with the Drug Enforcement Department (DED), Marine Police and Special Operation officers from the South Police Division, based on information provided by police intelligence.
Police noted that the information uncovered in the ongoing operation was shared with international parties to clarify any connections to foreign sources.
